How do we assess
our students
during KS4?
All assessment styles will help to prepare students for external examinations at the end of Year 11. Additionally, to enable students to practise for the demands of the examinations at the end of Year 11, we conduct mock examination weeks in both Year 10 and 11. Students experience the routine of sitting a series of exams in our Sports Hall supervised by our Exam Invigilators, which enables them to feel more confident when approaching the external exams.
Students are graded using the GCSE 1-9 grades or Vocational Level1/2 Pass/Merit/Distinction grades.
How often will we report progress to parents?
Where you have wider concerns regarding your child’s academic progress or their attitudes to learning, please contact either their Form Tutor, or their Year Achievement Manager.

Our commitment to ensuring students are supported.
During Key Stage 4, particularly during Year 11, Ruskin staff are committed to providing extra free support to students in preparation for their final examinations. Teachers routinely offer extra intervention to targeted students in the form of Lesson 6. Every week on Tuesday – Friday, 3.00pm – 4.00pm, there are a range of small group lessons taking place to enable students to address misconceptions in their learning. Please see the intervention page for further information.
