Attendance is a key component to your child’s success

Safeguarding

Ruskin is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people. We expect staff, volunteers and visitors to our school to respect and promote this. We have stringent safeguarding procedures, and all concerns are passed via our Designated Child Protection Officer.

Safeguarding Team

  • Safeguarding Lead – Mr Vitalis and Mrs Harrison
  • Safeguarding staff – Mrs Cross, Ms Webster and Miss Lander
  • Safeguarding Governor – Mr Higgs
  • Mental Health Lead – Claire Harrison

Cause for Concern

All staff are asked to report any causes for concern to the Designated Child Protection Officer, they verbalise their concern to the DSL, and then fill in a written proforma. Any concerns are shared with relevant stakeholders.

All of our staff receive safeguarding training and this is updated every 3 years. All new staff receive an induction session on safeguarding. The staff guidance and training covers:

  • Procedures to safeguard children and young people
  • Raising awareness about abuse to overcome barriers that young people may have reporting any concerns
  • Ways that staff can raise concerns about behaviour that is unacceptable
  • How to respond to any concerns or allegations
  • More detailed issues on the internet, e-safety, physical contact etc…

(Students are made aware of safeguarding procedures and know who to approach if they are worried or concerned.

In conjunction with Cheshire Police, Ruskin Community High School is involved in a new initiative called Operation Encompass.  The purpose of Operation Encompass is to safeguard and support children and young people who have been involved in, heard or witnessed a domestic abuse incident. Following such an incident, children will often arrive at school distressed, upset, worried and unprepared. Operation Encompass aims to ensure that appropriate school staff (called Key Adults) are made aware early enough to support children and young people in a way that means they feel safe and included.

At Ruskin our Key Adult is Mr Vitalis and Mrs Harrison

This is a valuable initiative that means we can continue to support and help children and families within our school community when they need it the most.

You can find out more by visiting www.operationencompass.org or by contacting our Key Adult.
